Carsington Sports and Leisure will be holding a Sail For Gold event on Sunday, June 5, at Carsington Water.
The Royal Yachting Association (RYA), the national governing body for sailing and windsurfing, has asked clubs and centres across the country to hold these events in the run up to the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The RYA is aiming to inspire more people to get involved with these sports and try them out in the next few months.
This first Sail for Gold event ties in with the start of the Sail for Gold Week in Weymouth and Portland, when Team GB sailors and windsurfers will be competing against other international sailors as a warm-up competition for the Olympics in 2012.
On Sunday, Carsington will be hosting a series of taster sessions in sailing and windsurfing for people to come along and have a go.
There will also be a barbecue and the junior windsurfing club will be taking part inraces during the morning session.
More events of this kind are planned in the run up to the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games and anybody interested in taking part will need to book in advance, either online at www.carsingtonwater.com or over the phone by calling the centre.
