Six juniors from Matlock Orienteering Club Night competed in the Derbyshire Schools and Youth Group Orienteering Championships.
This event was held last week at Darley Park, Darley Abbey, Derby.
The team gained four medals for inividual performances. These were first, second and third in Year 7/8 boys and third in Year 5/6 girls.
The team scored 588 points, only six short of the top scoring team.
Most of the team members have only started orienteering during the past year, coming along to the weekly club nights, now held at the ARC Leisure Centre in Matlock on Wednesdays during term time from 6.30pm-8pm.
They kept training throughout the winter using head torches to navigate on the dark nights. Over the past few weeks the club has had trips out to practice on other areas, including one evening spent finding control points on a climbing wall.
The club will be closed during the school summer holiday and will restart on September 12.
If you are interested in orienteering, why not join the club night in September and prepare to take part in the British Schools Score Orienteering Championships, to be held on Saturday October 13, at Kingsbury Water Park, Warwickshire.
