He first took victory in the second round of the Cyclo Cross National Trophy in Scotland before making it four wins from four rounds of the Leicestershire Cyclo Cross League at Misterton Hall.

Starting with his national success, the Matlock cyclist gained the leader’s green jersey with a win at Irvine on Saturday. The green jersey is cited as as valuable to cyclo cross racers as the yellow jersey is to the race leader in the Tour de France.

Gould won the race by 21 seconds from Scotsman Murray Swanson and has accumulated 90 points to lead the series by seven points over nearest challenger Chris Taylor, who was the first round winner at Derby.

The race itself saw Gould have to come from behind after his foot had come out of the clips to his pedals. But fightback he did to move through the field and join the leading pack. He got to the front and with three laps to go timed his assault.

The other four riders couldn’t keep with him and fell away with Gould excused a rare fall after the hurdles where he lost approximately three seconds, but his lead was big enough for it not to impact on the overall result.

Other local riders at the meet included: Harriett Limb, 8th in the Under 14 girls race; Alex Forrester, 8th in the Over 40 Veterans race; Ben Marsh, ninth in U14 Boys; Chris Watts, ninth in O60s Veterans; Sean Beswick, 16th in O50s Veterans; Mandie James, 17th in Veteran Womens.

Gould followed this up on Sunday in the fourth round of the Leicestershire series. He had won the previous three rounds and made it four from four at Misterton Hall.

The highest ranked riders got away to lead the field from the start. A small group of Phil Roach, Simon Hale and Gould detached themselves early on and they stayed clear until there were four laps remaining.

At this point, Gould put the hammer down and set off on his own for a solo win. Hale of the Army Cycling Union came in next and Roach third.
