Riddings 134-8 lost to

Darley Dale 138-7.

Darley Dale CC travelled to Riddings for their Division 4N season opener and came away with a three-wicket victory.

Darley’s captain Craig Elliottwon the toss and asked the home team to have first use of an impressive looking wicket.

Paul Carson and Dave Briggs opened the bowling and had the Riddings openers in trouble with seam movement and occasional extra bounce.

After a slow start, Carson finally removed the openers, Shane Sweeting for nine and Paul Fenn for a watchful 37, and more wickets began to fall with the introduction of feisty Greg Ward.

The evergreen Simon Cotterill then tightened the screw and Riddings managed to reach 134 for the loss of eight wickets.

In reply, openers Elliott and Jon Shaw steered Darley to 44 until the captain was caught flashing at point.

Jack Stone came and went to a snorker of a delivery which allowed new signing Stef Jackson to stride to the wicket.

The hard hitting left-hander took the attack to the Riddings bowlers scoring, a match winning 61 not out.

Darley did lose seven wickets mainly due to Daniel Parkin (4-34) which always kept the home team in the hunt, but the impressive stroke play of Jackson allowed Darley to claim all 22 points.

Darley’s youthful second XI fell to a four-wicket loss at home to Little Eaton.

The hosts were bowled out for 114, Jonathan Cooper (25) and Stuart Taylor (17) the main scorers in a side containing three under-15 players.

But despite Taylor claiming two wickets, Little Eaton passed the target with six down, Matthew Tong, Ben Yates and Andrew Hartley claiming the other victims.
