Matlock runners complete energy-sapping 55 mile race

Members of Matlock Athletic Club tested themselves over a gruelling 55 mile course.

They took on the energy-sapping Hardmoors Ultramarathon 55, which is 55 miles of running from Guisborough to Helmsley via the Cleveland Way taking in over 8000ft elevation passing Roseberry Topping, Captain Cook Memorial Tower and also the Famous White Horse.

The weather started with a storm force head wind for the first 30 miles and torrential rain for the last 20 odd miles.

Three club members - John Thorpe 11th in 10:04: 32, Craig Allen 11:43:15 and Peter Wilmot 11:44:16 - finished the race, which has a 16 hour time limit.

Saturday also saw the Clumber Park Duathlon take place, but not at Clumber Park; this time at Thoresby Park home of the Outlaw X. 2 distances - Standard and also the Sprint (5k Run, 20k Bike, 2.5k run), which MACs Christine Howard took on. A high quality race with Chris finishing 9th lady overall and 3rd LV45-49 in 1.21.19. The winner was Morgan Gallimore in 1.02.54. There were 195 finishers.
