Darley Dale 1sts drew with Breadsall
Darley Dale 1st XI entertained fourth-placed Breadsall over the weekend in what would prove a comfortable winning draw for the Station Road team.
Craig Elliott lost the toss and, having been put in to bat, set about frustrating the early Breadsall attempts to make inroads into Darley’s top order.
With the pitch looking decidingly difficult early on, Darley’s innings was built on dogged determination from Andrew Paulett, who anchored the innings, notching up a magnificent 69.
When Elliott departed, support came from Jack Stone with a run-a-ball 30 as the Paulett/Stone pairing performed yet again.
After Stone was out and when Paulett finally holed out, the Darley innings faltered to 142 which the home side felt was slightly below par. Only James Marsden provided any type of lower order contibution with 16.
Breadsall replied in aggressive fashion, despite the early loss of Jack Smith.
The away side appeared to be cantering to the winning post before Paul Carson struck twice in quick succession to remove James Drew and Simon Walker.
The introduction of wily Simon Cotterill saw him bag his 50th league wicket of the campaign, which was shortly followed by his 51st.
As Breadsall looked to shut up shop, they seemed hellbent on making their task as difficult as possible by taking risky singles, which allowed Stone and then Hartley to effect excellent run outs.
Ten-man Breadsall eventually managed to hang on for a losing draw with one wicket remaining.
