Penalty delight for Eagles plus news of Matlock Town Juniors’ Soccer School

Matlock Town Eagles U18 2

Grassmoor Gladiators 2 (Eagles win 3-2 on penalties)

Matlock Town Eagles progressed to the semi-finals of the U18s League Cup on penalties after a 2-2 draw with Grassmoor.

After Grassmoor took and early lead, Ben Harrison levelled for Eagles in the first-half from Scott Lester’s free-kick, and Jacob Gunton added a second from the penalty spot in the second-half.

But Gladiators fought back and took the tie into extra-time with an equaliser.

That brought no further goals, but after Harrison, Jake Hatcliffe and Gunton had netted their penalties in the shoot-out, keeper Myles Wright saved the crucial Grassmoor kick and Eagles were through.

l Boys and girls from the age of five to nine can learn the football skills and techniques they need to play the game at Matlock Town Juniors FC’s Soccer School, which starts again in March after its winter break.
