Rowsley march on in the cup with win over Town

In an all-Premier Division tie in the MRA Challenge Cup, the competition went the way of the form book as Aaron O’Neill and Patrick Speedie found the net for high-flying Rowsley ’86 in a 2-0 win at Wirksworth Town.

It took extra-time to determine the winners in the and Tibshelf versus Ambergate tie, Tibshelf winning 3-2 despite goals from Ryan Walters and Shaun Bestwick.

In the Premier Division, Cromford leapfrogged Newhall into fifth place after goals from Ady Kershaw (2) and Joe Kay helped them to a 3-1 win at home to Sandiacre Town.

Meanwhile, a high-scoring encounter between Woolley Moor United and Matlock Sports eventually went the hosts’ way. Adam Norris (2), Tom Norris, Brett Turner and Paul Winter netting for Woolley Moor in a 5-3 win, with Callum Lytham (2) and Wayne Garrity replying for the visitors.

Rowsley ’86 Reserves remain top of Division One by a single point despite a rare defeat, suffering a 4-1 reverse at home to Ripley Town, Joe Heron with the Rowsley goal.

In Division Two, Newhall United Reserves were prevented from joining Division Two leaders Stapleford Town on 18 points after hosts Ambergate Reserves came from behind to hold them to a 2-2 draw, Paul Robinson and Richard Tomlinson on target.

The game between Little Eaton Reserves and Matlock Town CFA also ended all square, as goals from Alex Lynam, Adrian Wraith and Jamie Astley for the hosts were cancelled out by strikes from Michael Lettall (2) and Liam Pickard for the visitors.

Meanwhile, goals from Anthony Stott, Richard Marshall and Scott Webster propelled Woolley Moor United Reserves to a 3-1 home win over Wirksworth Town Reserves.
