The Gladiators are looking for someone with experience of the National League system to take the position at the DCJ Group Arena, which became vacant on Sunday.

The club parted ways with Glenn Kirkwood and Craig Hopkins following the 1-0 defeat away to Rushall Olympic, leaving Matlock third from bottom.

A statement published on the Gladiators’ club website read: “Evo-Stik NPL Premier Division Matlock Town welcome applications for their vacant manager’s position after previous incumbents Glenn Kirkwood and Craig Hopkins’ mutually agreed departure from the DCJ Group Arena over the weekend.

“Matlock are a well established club playing at Step 3 and the club seek experienced personnel within the national league system.

“Applications containing a detailed CV should be sent to both the chairman, Tom Wright, and the chief executive, Keith Brown.”

The defeat at Rushall was the latest in a string of poor results this season under Kirkwood and Hopkins - months after the pair had delivered ‘one of the best seasons in recent years,’ according to chairman Mr Wright.

He said: “I would like to thank both Glen and Craig for their time at Matlock Town Football Club as joint managers.

“Last season they succeeded in taking us to the late stages of several cup competitions, the final of the Derbyshire Senior Cup, and we finished a very respectable ninth in the table, giving our supporters one of the best seasons in recent years.

“This season we have seen mixed results, and both Glen and Craig will be the first to admit that things haven’t gone as well as expected.

“It has been a real pleasure working with them both over the past two years, and I know my colleagues on the management committee would like to wish them all the very best of luck for the future.”
