Matlock Town snap up young goalkeeper from Lincoln City

Matlock Town have completed the signing of goalkeeper Richard Walton from League Two Lincoln City.

The 20-year-old was on loan with the Gladiators for the final eight weeks of the season and has now moved to the Proctor Cars Stadium for an undisclosed fee.

Earlier in the campaign Walton was on loan at Gainsborough Trinity and Cleethorpes Town.

With Phil Barnes out injured, he made his Town debut pulling off two excellent saves in the 2-0 win at Nantwich Town and went on to play a major part in Matlock’s recovery during the climax to the 2017/18 campaign.

Walton was keen to come to Matlock after spending three years at Sincil Bank.

“Richard put in some excellent performances in his time with us last season and developed a good relationship with our supporters,” said a Matlock spokesman.

“We’re delighted that the deal has been completed and the assistance of the management and directors at Lincoln City in making this deal happen is very much appreciated.”
