Safe sporting summer fun

Derbyshire Dales District Council is running a range of summer holiday sporting activities for local youngsters through the StreetGames Initiative.

The Safer Communities through Sport project offers ‘doorstep’ sport to young people, helping increase youth participation in sport, prevent youth crime and create volunteering opportunities.

All sessions are funded externally at no cost to district council taxpayers and StreetGames for teenagers are staged weekly in Matlock and Wirksworth. A nominal fee of £1 per young person or £1 per family helps with coaching fees.

The programme sees sessions take place on Anthony Gell School Fields, Wirksworth, on Thursdays from 6.30pm to 8pm, and on Helicopter Park, Hurst Farm in Matlock, on Tuesdays from 6pm to 7pm and 7pm to 8pm (13+ years)
