Season is off to a flier

The first Saturday of the Yorkshire and Derbyshire Cricket League season saw mixed fortunes for our local clubs.

In Division One, Holmesfield got off to a promising start with a win at Hathersage. Batting first, the visitors scored 171 for 6 from their 46 overs. Hathersage were sent back for 119 with David Ward taking 6 for 36.

In Division Two, Dronfield Woodhouse had an excellent home win over Grindleford. Batting first, Woodhouse totalled 242 for 9. Grindleford were then dismissed for 107.

Top scorers in Division Three were Bakewell with 229 for 2 at newcomers Richmond, who were dismissed for 111.

Other results saw Baslow beat Shardlows by 21 runs.

In Division Four, Hathersage 2nds beat Hundall 2nds by six wickets and Totley Sports had a 58-run victory over Youlgrave Lodge.

Division Five matches included Baslow 2nds beating Sheffield Civil Service by two runs in a low-scoring affair.
