Second-half blitz proves key to Harborne victory as Baileans are well beaten

Matlock Baileans firsts returned to action with their first league game since November but fell to a 4-0 defeat at home to Harborne.

Matlock began well with good attacking play from the likes of Nina Smedley and Leyanne Beacham, but Harborne finally broke down the home defence to lead 1-0 at the break.

Despite a man-of-the-match display by Alison Millyard and strong work in midfield from Joanne Carson and defence from Lisa Beacham, Harborne’s extra pace proved key and three further goals in quick succession ended any Baileans hopes.

Baileans are third bottom of the Midland Region Hockey Association Womens League Premier Division but have games in hand on those around them.

Next weekend sees them visit Leicester Ladies on Saturday and then host Birmingham Uni on Sunday.
