Darley Dale 1sts entertained lowly Ambergate in a game that proved to be a narrow victory for the home side in Division 4N.

Having elected to field, Darley’s opening attack terrorised the Ambergate top order.

Craig Elliott’s marvellous catch bagged the first wicket for Sam Lightfoot before Paul Carson clean bowled Steven Shuttleworth.

The introduction of Simon Cotterill proved a master stroke by skipper Elliott, Cotterill taking a wicket in his first over thanks to Jack Stone stumping Joe Beveridge.

Cotterill looked all but unplayable as he jagged the ball off the pitch, which the Ambergate batsmen simply could not cope with.

Only Rob Marshall (31 not out) offered any sort of resistance for Ambergate, who chalked up just 112.

Cotterill, assisted by Carson, wrapped up the innings with figures of 7-16 making him the leading wicket taker in Division 4N.

In reply, Darley looked in control at 24-0 off four overs. However, a rain break of two hours reduced the amount of overs remaining to 17.

When play resumed, Darley lost Elliott, Andy Paulett and James Marsden in quick succession. The match looked to have turned on its head completely.

Jack Stone (33 not out) and Jacob Hartley (15 not out) however had other ideas for the home side. Despite their relatively young age, the pairing showed experience beyond their years, Stone bossing the bowling while Hartley picked off the singles to bring up the target of 113.
