Darley Dale 2nds 229-6 drew with Mugginton 118-5
Darley Dale welcomed Mugginton to an overcast and blustery Station Road on Saturday in Division 7N of the Derbyshire County League.
Mugginton won the toss and elected to field first on a wet pitch. The away team took early wickets but Darley continued to score at a quick rate.
Darley’s skipper Jonathan Shaw (90) produced a true captain’s innings and batted with great elegance, despatching the Mugginton attack to all corners of the ground.
Shaw was supported well by the young James Murphy, who scored his maiden half century in a fine knock of 72 not out, allowing Darley Dale to reach a huge score of 229 for the loss of six wickets.
In reply, Darley’s opening bowler Bittles (3-18) had Mugginton’s top order in tangles as he bowled with good pace, taking three early wickets and giving Darley the sniff of the maximum 27 points.
However Rowlands (48 not out) had other ideas and batted very defensively, making sure Mugginton did not lose the match.
Taylor bowled with immense accuracy and Lightfoot extremely quickly, trying to give Darley the win.
Darley now travel to Allestree this Saturday and are sitting mid-table in the league.
