The fourth annual Darley Dale Super Sixes cricket tournament took place on Sunday at the club’s Station Road ground with the event raising £250 for charity.
After a damp start to the day, the sun came out and the sizable crowd were treated to a feast of cricketing entertainment.
Six sides, adorned in a variety of costumes, battled it out for the coverted trophy. With Jack Stone providing full match commentary and interviews with players and a full selection of real ale from Wirksworth Brewery, the party atmosphere was infectious.
2009 champions Darley Dale Superkings were unceremoniously dumped out of the competition in the qualifying stages along with the much fancied Matlock Pink Socks.
After a raffle raising £250 for Cancer Research was drawn, it was time for the much anticipated final.
The eventual winning team, captained by Charlotte Horton and comprising three of Derbyshire’s ladies county side, were in tremendous form and their aggressive shot play and relentless bowling was ultimately too much for opponents Tom Frankham’s Cobras side, even with their talisman Dougie Briggs in fine form.
Darley Dale Cricket Club would like to thank all those who attended for a wonderful day of community fun.
