The Matlock Fan: Thanks for the memories

This week saw the departure of Mark Atkins and Nick Buxton as the Gladiators fell further towards the bottom of the table following a defeat against fellow current strugglers Halesowen Town.

I’ve had the pleasure of dealing with Mark and Nick on several occasions and I can in all honesty say that I don’t have a bad word to say about them.

We’ve had six years under their guidance and some incredible memories to look back on, including Derbyshire Senior Cup final appearances and FA Trophy games against Mansfield Town and Luton Town, and I can’t thank them enough for their time at the club and wish them both the best for the future.

For now, Martin Foster and Dave Rushbury take interim charge, a mix of youth and experience in management that could work really nicely and it’ll be interesting to see how the team does under those two gentlemen going forward with some tough games just on the horizon.

The big question on everyone’s lips is who is the next man for the job on a permanent basis.

It’s sure to attract a lot of interest given the nature of the club and where it is in the country but it’ll be up to the board to appoint the right man to do the job and to galvanise the fan base which has become quite fractured due to differences of opinions since the start of the season.
