The battle for the Midlands Regional Alliance Premier Division crown is rapidly developing into a three-horse race, as Rowsley ’86, Cromford and Melbourne Dynamo all won at the weekend.

Rowsley hit three without reply at home to Wirksworth Town to maintain their two-point lead at the summit with Liam Hallam, Ben Harrison and Seb Walker getting the goals.

Second-placed Cromford boast the only unbeaten record in the division but it took until a minute from time for Ady Kershaw to score the only goal of the game against Sandiacre Town.

Wirksworth Ivanhoe, meanwhile, lost 3-2 at home to Allestree.

Most teams outside of the Premier Division were in Junior Cup action. Matlock United winning 3-1 at Shirebrook Rangers, whilst in the County Cup, Rowsley ’86 Reserves won 3-2 at home to Blazing Rag 2000.

In Division Two of the MRA, Matlock Town CFA completed a well deserved double over Shirebrook Rangers in what was one of the best team displays of the season as they won 2-0.

With two young footballing sides on display this was always going to be a close encounter.

The game got off to a good start as both sides looked for an opening on the heavy pitch and the deadlock was finally broken midway through the first-half when Michael Lettall teased a Shirebrook defender into a clumsy challenge.

A free-kick was awarded and Alex Lacey unleashed his lethal left foot to score a superb 30 yard goal.

This put the visitors firmly in control at the break but the CFA needed a second half goal.

On came Sam Kelly, who made an immediate impact in the game.

His pressure down the right led to a Lacey cross delivered into the box, and man-of-the-match Jake Gascoigne was perfectly placed to find the net and seal an important away win
