It’s time for Gladiators fans to vote for their top player of what has been an up and down season, one which has not delivered as much as expected.
A decent FA Trophy run and an on the whole improved league campaign in which they have been largely mid-table have been the positives, but an injury-hit side were beaten at Belper at the first hurdle in their defence of the Derbyshire Senior Cup while there were also disappointing premature exits from the FA Cup and Integro Doodson NPL Cup.
So who are the leading candidates to succeed Jon Kennedy for the fans Player Of The Year Award, again sponsored by the Mercury?
Adam Yates has again had a consistent campaign in the heart of the Gladiators defence, despite having a number of central defensive partners including Laurie Wilson, who has also been a key player in the heart of the Gladiators midfield and has illuminated many a game with some stunning free-kick goals.
George Willis, on loan from Sheffield United, has pulled off some remarkable saves to become an instant hit with Town supporters while in attack, Niall McManus has often been Matlock’s most lively attacker.
For unspectacular but solid and consistent displays, look no further than Liam Needham.
To vote, simply e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org with your choice.
Closing date for entries is April 28 and the trophy will be awarded at the club’s annual presentation night on May 6.
