Matlock 2nd XI had a defeat and a losing draw to look back on after a weekend double-header.
At Chesterfield Barbarians on Saturday, Matlock batted first and confidently amassed 189-6, the main contributors being Mark Burton with 34, Steve Pell 25, Edward Lowe 46 not out, Rob Lowe 38 and Paul Chadbourne 25.
But despite two early wickets to Alex Lawson, Alex Fowkes (66) and Ben Chambers’(49) 107 stand put Chesterfield in control, and they eventually secured a win by six wickets.
On Sunday the seconds hosted Langley Mill 2nd XI and were asked to field first, Langley Mill declaring at 270-4 after opener Aaron Tullett (98) and Dan Pheasant (90) came close to centuries.
Matlock saved a draw by ending on 204-8, Steve Pell hitting 71.
The third team slipped to defeat against Breadsall CC when playing on their 2013 shared home ground at Youlgreave.
Breadsall opted to bat first but some excellent bowling figures limited their ambition to 133 -8 in 46 overs.
Andy Hawkmoon bowled a mean 14 over spell of 2-24, including the wicket of top scorer Pook (31). Tim Braund took 3-35 in 13 overs and there was another impressive spell by young Jack Stevenson with 2-19.
Despite the second wicket partnership between juniors Philip Braund (13) and Elliott Hitchcock (19) the innings then dissolved to 48 all out in 32 overs, Ross Smith taking 5-11.
