U17s are edged out by Paviors

Matlock U17s 17 Paviors 22

Paviors edged to victory at the weekend in a close encounter between two well-matched sides.

First strike came from Paviors after some loose tackling, but missing the conversion kept the lead at five points.

Matlock responded when quick ball fell in the hands of Tom Lawrence who outpaced his opposite number to score, the conversion falling short.

While Matlock showed great determination in defence it was only a matter of time for Paviors to cross the line again, this time giving them an easy kick to give them a 12-5 half-time lead.

Matlock took until midway through the second-half to score again, Lawrence with an excellent solo try and Sam Page converting to square up the game.

A defensive error allowed Paviors to go back in front, but back came Matlock and Conor Loughnane bulldozed his way over to again level the score.

But Paviors didn’t want to give this one up and finally had the last say, scoring late on to win by five points.
