Weather intervenes as Darley share honours

Darley Dale entertained Holmewood on Saturday in a game scuppered by the weather.

The home side sensed an early finish when they had the visitors rocking on 16-4, Dougie Briggs doing the early damage with an unplayable early stint aided by Paul Carson.

The visitors rebuilt with a 100-run stand through Gavin Horton (62) and Matt Ryalls (49) and looked set to post an unassailable score on a pitch dampening by the hour.

The reintroduction of Carson (4-47) and Briggs (4-28) quickly wrapped up proceedings with Holmewood posting a testing 169.

In reply Darley lost early wickets but counter-attacked through Craig Elliott (25) and Jake Hartley (33).

With the match finely poised at 105-5 and with Briggs going well with the bat the rain set in and the home team were left to make do with 12 points.

Darley Dale 2nds travelled to Stanton by Dale in a Division 7N clash with both teams pushing for promotion.

Darley opted to bat first but runs were hard to come by and Smith, Marsden and Sadler all fell cheaply and Darley were wobbling at 50 for 3.

But another fine innings from Colin Nadin got Darley out of jail. Opener Jonny Shaw and Nadin put on 80 for the fourth wicket with Nadin scoring an aggressive and classy-looking 40.

Shaw held the innings together and was out in the final over for a magnificent 106 which included 11 fours and four sixes, helping Darley to finish on 214.

In reply, Matt Wright removed both openers but Gregory (107*) and Guest (65*) had other ideas.

Missed chances coupled with lose bowling allowed Stanton to achieve their target in the 41st over, meaning Darley are now in third place on 273 points, nine behind Morton in second.
