Darley Dale welcomed Marehay CC to Station Road for an early season top of the table encounter.
On an overcast and drizzly day captain Rob Smith lost the toss and was asked to bat on a green but firm pitch.
Early impetus was given to the Darley openers Smith and Shaw, who despatched the odd loose ball to the boundary.
Shaw scored 70 and drove and timed the ball nicely.
Following on from this Ralph Wilson (26) held the latter part of the innings together rotating the strike nicely.
Then some late lusty blows from Ben Yates and Stuart Taylor allowed Darley to post a respectable total of 162 for 8 from their 46 overs.
In response, Marehay’s innings was delayed by the weather.
When the two sides finally got onto the pitch it was clear that any result was going to be hard to come by.
Darley bowled with good intent and Dave Lane (1 for 23 from 9 overs) was rewarded when he bowled Bromley for 13.
Lane swung the ball and tested the batsman with every delivery.
Young Matthew Wright (1 for 9 from 6 overs) supported Lane well and was also rewarded when he hit the top of off with an exceptional delivery.
However it seemed inevitable that the weather would win this encounter and with the rain becoming harder the two teams shook hands and both received 10 points for their efforts.
Darley cemented their place in third on 54 points from their opening three matches.
