Such was the weight of the monstrous fish, it took Robert Hall fully 15 minutes to reel it in today (Wednesday).

The 28-year-old from Middlecroft, Staveley, said: “It was a struggle to get it in and when it came to the surface I couldn’t believe my eyes.”

“I’ve seen a few big ones but never anything like this - it’s the biggest I’ve ever caught.”

The largest pike caught in England stands at 46lb 11oz, according to the Angling Times in February of this year.
