AOR aces to play at The Flowerpot

Legends Of AOR will take to the stage at The Flowerpot in Derby on Friday, July 15.

The King Street venue welcomes a band who play the best selection of AOR classics, fronted by one of the best UK rock vocalists.

Legends of AOR are a tribute to the music of the 80s American melodic rock bands featuring music from Journey, Boston, Styx, Kansas, Foreigner, Toto, REO Speedwagon, Survivor, Don Henley and more.

This stunning show will have you out of your seat and singing along and crying out for more with it’s energy, top class musicianship, soaring harmonies as you re-Llve the songs of your youth.

The band features Jimi Anderson (lead vocals), Matt Pearce (guitars and backing vocals), Julia Krajewska (keyboards and backing vocals), Mel Gabbitas (bass guitar) and Tony Piper (drums).

n Derby Concert Orchestra will be in action this weekend for the final performance of their 2015-2016 season.

St Mary’s Church in Wirksworth is to be the venue for the performance, to be conducted by Jonathan Trout and starting at 7.3pm.

The programme will feature four contrasting popular classics.

They are Weber’s Der Freischutz Overture, Smetana’s famous tone poem Vltava, Stravinsky’s suite from his groundbreaking ballet score The Firebird, and Rachmaninov’s magnificent orchestral swansong, the Symphonic Dances.

Tickets are £12 (£10 concessions) while under 16s get in free when accompanied by an adult

n Big Adventures Youth Theatre are to perform the comic musical Urinetown at Derby’s Guildhall Theatre, from July 6-9.

Written by Mark Hollmann and Greg Kotis, and set in a dystopian future where everyone has to pay for the ‘privilege to pee’, the musical riffs on everything from Bernstein to Brecht, showing one man’s struggle to defeat the system and win justice for all.

Tickets to see Urinetown at Derby’s Guildhall Theatre are £14.25 and are available from the box office on 01332 255800.

n Cromford Mills is hosting a Meet The Artist - John Hermansen Pottery event on both Saturday and Sunday (July 9 and 10) from 10am-4pm.

The location is the Mill Yard and there is to be free entry.

n Classic rock and metal covers band Synner continue a busy period of gigging with a performance at The Out Of Town in Ripley on Saturday, July 9.
