City hosts free family FIGMENT event

This weekend the people of Derby and visitors to the city are being invited to join artists, performers, makers and creators to celebrate Europe's first ever FIGMENT event.

Cathedral Green, in the heart of the city, will play host to FIGMENT Derby on Saturday, from 12noon to 5pm. The event will be an afternoon of playfulness and creativity as dozens of volunteers from across the city come together to share their work and hold a range of activities for the whole family.

The FIGMENT movement began on Governors Island in New York in July 2007. Since then, hundreds of thousands of people across America have engaged in events to celebrate creativity and interactive art.

The aim of the event is to bring artists and volunteers together to test their most creative, innovative or challenging projects and share their experiences with the people of Derby, encouraging people not just to look at their work but to take an active part.

The afternoon is free for all to attend and there will be a number of activities for people of all ages and abilities to take part in.
