Derbyshire brothers’ punk rock band Pet Needs attracts Frank Turner to produce debut album

Johnny and George Marriott’s punk rock band Pet Needs launch their long player Fractured Party Music today (Friday, March 12).

An explosive performance at Camden Rocks won over Frank Turner to mix and master their debut album. Commenting on Pet Needs’ live show, Frank said: “Top find of Camden Rocks (2019) so far... great set!"

Frank has harnessed the restless energy stored up from months bereft of live shows to produce the studio record .

The band’s anti-anthems are inspired by disastrous job interviews, self-destruction and river journeys on inflatable kayaks.

New single Toothpaste is frontman Johnny’s letter to his ten-year-old self. He said: “Toothpaste was penned on the M1 on the way home from visiting my mum in Derby.

She has bought exactly the same toothpaste for years and every time I use it, standing in the bathroom next to my childhood bedroom, it throws me right back to being an anxious little lad trying to make sense of things.”

Toothpaste swiftly follows the BBC6 Music championed Tracey Emin’s Bed with presenter Steve Lamacq describing Pet Needs’ sound as “Scrunchy melodic rock ‘n’ roll….right up my street.”

The Colchester-based band have shared stages with Muncie Girls, Maximo Park, PiL and the Undertones and impressed audiences at several major festivals.

Fractured Party Music is out on the Xtra Miles Recordings label.
