Celebrating 15 years of Reveal Records, the new release Home Is Where The Art was launched this week. The double CD album of cult classics, deep album cuts, new and unreleased music costs just £7.

Derby record store owner Tom Rose launched his record company in 2005 after a chance encounter with Joan As Policewoman on the music website myspace. Singer Joan Wasser, whose stage name is Joan As Police Woman, said: “He had seen me open for Rufus Wainwright in Birmingham and then returned the next night in Nottingham to make sure he liked my solo set as much as he thought he did. ‘I would like to sell your CD in my store, Reveal Records, in Derby’, he wrote. I was flattered, especially never having heard of Derby. I sent him the box he requested, assuming he would return the ones he hadn’t sold. Shortly afterwards, he wrote me requesting two more boxes.

"I soon figure out that Tom is a tastemaker. He is playing my EP in his shop, prominently displaying it and urging folks to check out this new music he’d recently heard live. He tells me he wants to start a label and make my EP Reveal Records’ first release. I hadn’t even met this guy yet, but I liked his style. Fifteen years later we’re still working together. He released my first two full-length albums Real Life and To Survive. My career took off because of his tenacity, undying support and incredible work ethic.”

Joan has two songs on the album, Valid Jagger (Live) and 1. Real Life and contributes to a third, Beautiful Disguise by Gramercy Arms on which she guests with Lloyd Cole.

Visionary avant-garde folk trio Lau and maverick English songwriter Boo Hewerdine are also among Reveal Records stablemates whose songs appear on Home Is Where The Art Is.
