A Matlock artist has been selected for a prestigious art prize and now has the chance to win a share of the £17,000 prize fund.
Roger Allen, of Hoe Grange in Brassington, is one of only 90 artists selected from over 1,200 entries.
Roger’s painting will be displayed at the Mall Galleries, London, from September 14-19 and will then tour venues across the UK including Castle Fine Art in Birmingham from October 10-18 and the Guildford House Gallery from November 14 to January 2.
He said: “I’m ever the pessimist so I don’t think I’ll win but to even have my work exhibited in a gallery such as that is very nice.”
The Sunday Times Watercolour Competition is the largest and most prestigious showcase for contemporary watercolour painting in the UK.
Roger’s winning painting is of Wolfscot Dale, near Biggin, on the Derbyshire-Staffordshire border.
