Christmas stories to be told in Matlock

The Matlock Storytelling Cafe gears up for Christmas on Friday, December 6, with an event called A Victorian Christmas - Tales from the Empire.

A Victorian parlour; a bored dowager, seeking diversion; a series of eccentric callers, with stories from their travels to far flung lands...will they succeed in lifting her from her torpor?

Come and join the fun as the storytellers of Matlock enter their Christmas time machine and are thrown into a world of calling cards, sardonic butlers and stifling corsets.

Tickets cost £7 and are available from The Greenway Cafe, Snitterton Rd, Matlock OR by calling Storytelling Cafe on 01629 580023. Alternatively, you can pay on the door. Cakes and savoury snacks are available. You can also bring your own bottle.

The Matlock Storytelling Café is based in The Imperial Rooms, Matlock. Doors open at 6.45pm and the show begins at 7.30pm.

n The fabulous Fishpond Choir will be performing a Christmas Concert at their “home ground”, the Fishpond pub, on South Parade. in Matlock Bath, on Monday, December 9, at 8pm.

The Fish-ponders will feature their musical director and tenor soloist Dana de Waal, along with dazzling accompanist Anne de Waal.

The concert will include Christmas music old and new, traditional carols and popular songs on the theme of Christmas and it promises to be a really fun evening.

Entrance is free although the audience will be invited to make a donation towards the cost of putting on the show.

n Tickets are still available to see Tideswell Male Voice Choir and Sir Richard Arkwright’s Masson Mills Band in their annual Christmas Spectacular at Chesterfield’s Winding Wheel Theatre on Sunday, December 8 at 7pm.
