Derby LIVE and local Derbyshire arts organisation FOLK 3D are working together to educate the young people of Derbyshire in English folk traditions through a series of activities and workshops.

This work has been made possible through a grant awarded to Derby LIVE by the Heritage Lottery Fund, with the project taking place over the next three years.

The project will involve FOLK 3D providing a series of workshops to train both teachers and the young people of Derbyshire in English Folk traditions, creating a bank of high quality learning resources relating to folk traditions and working with Derby LIVE to produce performances for the annual St George’s Day Celebrations event. This year’s St George’s Day event will take place on Saturday, April 26.

Pete Meakin, creative producer at Derby LIVE, said: “The St George’s Day celebrations are now a highlight of the city’s cultural calendar. The funding from the HLF, as we’ll as the great contributions from partners such as Folk 3D and Lostboys Theatre Company, means that the positive of the impact of the celebrations is felt well beyond the day itself.”

The programme of events planned for Saturday in the Market Place can be found at
