See Handel opera up there on big screen

Showcase Cinema de Lux Westfield in Derby presents Handel’s Giulio Cesare, broadcast live via satellite from New York’s Metropolitan Opera on Saturday, April 27, at 5pm.

Sir David McVicar’s Giulio Cesare is a brand new stage production that incorporates elements of Baroque theatre and 19th century British imperialism to illuminate the opera’s themes of love, war and empire building.

Showcase audiences can enjoy Handel’s opera performed by an incredible international cast that includes world-renowned countertenor David Daniels, who stars as the title character, Julius Caesar, opposite Natalie Dessay in her Met role debut as the bewitching Cleopatra.

David McVicar commented: “Giulio Cesare is a kaleidoscope of an opera, a semi-comic, semi-tragic adventure story. You get romance, you get drama, you get moments of political wheeling-and-dealing, complex family relationships—as well as real emotion and tragedy.”

Tickets are available now from the box office, online at, via the Showcase mobile app or through the 24 hour ticket hotline on 0871 220 1000. General tickets are priced at £12.50, with students and Insider members priced at £10.
