Tansley Film screens top movie

Tansley Film will be showing 12 Years A Slave (15) in Tansley Village Hall on Tuesday, November 4.

One of the most talked-about films in the past year, the movie is based on the 19th century memoirs of Solomon Northup.

He was born a free man in New York state, but was tricked, drugged, kidnapped and sold into slavery. His journey is often brutal, but he clings to the hope that one day he will regain his freedom.

12 Years A Slave is directed by British artist/filmmaker Steve McQueen. Chiwetel Ejiofor plays Northup and the film won Best Picture at the Oscars, as well as Best Screenplay and Best Supporting Actress for Lupita Nyong’o.

It is not always an easy film to watch, but 12 Years A Slave has been called an “unflinchingly brutal look at American slavery that is also brilliant - and quite possibly - essential cinema.”

The screening starts at 7.30pm. Refreshments are available from 7pm. No membership is required. Tickets cost £4. Please book in advance to avoid disappointment on 01629 584243/07748 545287.
