STAr actor Dominic West has announced he is supporting Helen’s Trust by becoming a Patron for the Bakewell-based charity.

West, who is well-known for his starring role as Detective Jimmy McNulty in TV drama series The Wire, was touched by the support Helen’s Trust gave his mother to achieve her wish of being able to die at home in 2009.

He said: “Helen’s Trust is an amazing charity which is making a huge difference to the lives of incurably ill people in Sheffield and North Derbyshire. I know how important it was to support my mother to have the choice to be cared for and to die in the house she grew up in and loved so well.”

Lucy Nickson, chief executive of Helen’s Trust, said: “We are delighted and very grateful that Dominic has decided to support us. We desperately need the voice of high profile supporters like Dominic and we know his presence as Patron will help us to build on the strong, positive reputation that we have for supporting people of all ages, with any incurable illness to have the choice to stay at home.” Helen’s Trust works to enable comfort and support when it’s needed the most, and to remove the barriers that may prevent a person from staying at home. The Trust works creatively to fund all types of care and equipment, including nursing support, sitters, personal care and support with running the home as needed.
