BUXTON Opera House plays host to English Touring Opera with three sumptuous productions from May 5 to 7.
Puccini’s two short and contrasting operas Tabarro and Gianni Schicchi can be seen on Thursday, May 5, while Mozart’s La Clemenza di Tito is performed on Friday, May 6 and Tobias Picker’s Roald Dahl-inspired Fantastic Mr Fox is on Saturday, May 7.
Of the Puccini works, one is a moody romance ending in a grotesque murder on a barge in Paris, and the other is a sparkling comedy about a family inheritance in Florence. Composed by a mature master of drama and character, Puccini’s lyrical genius is epitomised in the much-loved aria O mio babbino caro.
La Clemenza di Tito is one of Mozart’s final works, an epic story of terrorism, betrayal and forgiveness set in blazing colours.
Based on Roald Dahl’s famous story, Tobias Picker’s Fantastic Mr Fox brings the vibrancy of the natural world and sinister machinations of the farmers to life. The piece is written for adults and fox cubs alike, providing a funny, accessible and supremely engaging opera for all the family.
The performances begin at 7.30pm. Tickets will be priced from £16.50 to £32.50. Call the box office on 0845 127 2190.
