Audiences will be terrified next week when spooky play The Woman in Black arrives at Buxton Opera House.
Described as an ‘exploration of terror’ the ghostly tale tells the story of a lawyer obsessed with a curse that he believes has been cast over him and his
family by the spectre of a ‘Woman in Black’.
Matt Connor plays the role of The Actor who is engaged to help the lawyer tell his story.
He said of scaring audiences: “It’s a fun challenge. Theatres are naturally spooky places; I have to do a lot of creeping around in the shadows which can be a genuinely unnerving experience.
“The play utilises simple techniques to terrify audiences, which are very effective; clever lighting, amazing sound effects and smoke.
“We get the imaginations of the audience working overtime and it’s their own imaginations that truly scare them. The play follows you home and ensures you sleep with the lights on.”
The Woman in Black runs at Buxton Opera House from Tuesday, June 16 to Saturday, June 20 at 7.30pm with matinees on Wednesday and Saturday at 2.30pm.
