Lively jazz band Heads South will be blowing away the winter blues when they play in New Mills this weekend.

The group’s music has the popular Buena Vista Social Club feel about it. Featuring some of the UK’s top jazz musicians, the band combine Afro-Cuban and Latin influenced rhythms with pleasing melodies.

The line-up is seriously talented and features some of the nation’s top jazz musicians; there’s top UK jazz trumpeter Steve Waterman and charismatic Cuban percussionist Chino Martell Morgan, with John Harriman on piano and organ, Venezuelan bassist Adolfredo Pulido, and versatile percussionist Buster Birch.

Their repertoire includes memorable new tunes and arrangements of much-loved standards.

The band performs a varied set with the tempo going from the bright to the moody, with cool laid back rhythms that you’ll want to soak up and others with a cha-cha vibe that will get you raring to dance.

A dazzling set from a superb jazz quintet, weaving cool Latin rhythms with Cuban cha-cha vibes, enthralling originals with beloved classics such as Mack the Knife and Guantanamera; exhilarating, heartfelt and a whole lot of fun.

This is warm, fresh, ‘sunshine’ jazz that will whisk you away to sunnier climes.

Heads South play at Spring Bank Arts Centre on Friday, January 28, at 7.30pm.Tickets £10 and £8, from the arts centre and High Street Books, New Mills, or online at www.wegottickets.com
