A classical music ‘supergroup’ will be performing in the Dales later this month as Matlock Music marks its 50th anniversary with a concert.
On Friday, November 22, Matlock Music is celebrating its half-century with a special concert featuring the Iuventus String Ensemble.
The ensemble (pictured above) was formed in 2010 as an expanded version of the renowned Iuventus Quartet, to allow for more imaginative programming.
The ensemble has performed in venues across the UK and abroad.
Recent reviews have hailed the group’s performances as ‘startling’ and ‘spellbinding’.
Regular Matlock concert-goers will recognise Ruth Rogers (violin) and Katherine Jenkinson (cello) from visits with the Aquinas Piano Trio.
The concert will open with Mendelssohn’s famous and much-loved Octet, opus 20.
Brahms’ Sextet No.1 follows, a youthful work, written in 1860.
The concert concludes with Benjamin Britten’s Simple Symphony, opus 4, composed in 1933-4. The piece is based on eight themes which Britten wrote during his childhood.
The concert is the Wheeldon Hall, Highfields School, Lumsdale, off the Chesterfield Road, Matlock, starting at 7.30pm. Tickets are available at the door before the concert at £10.
Under 18s, students and registered jobseekers pay half-price.
All seats are unreserved. . Further information is available from John Oldfield on 01629 733296 or from www.matlockmusic.org.uk
