The StarDisc in Wirksworth’s Stoney Wood celebrates a very successful first year this weekend with two open air events.
On Friday, August 31, from 7.30pm-8.30pm, 1623 Theatre Company perform a specially written one-hour version of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet.
Using a small cast of professional actors, the tragedy of the star-crossed lovers will be played out on the unique circular auditorium of the StarDisc. Tickets range from £4-£8 each, with the cheaper prices for those bringing their own chairs. Pay on entry.
Then, on Sunday, September 2, there will be a performance by long-established skiffle band, Please Y’Self, a week before their 40th anniversary.
This family band, with brothers Rob and John Gill and sister Chris, will provide a great evening’s entertainment drawing on the skiffle roots of rock and roll. There will also be the support band Red Ruff. The gig will be running from 6.30pm-9pm and this free event provides a finale to the Stoney Wood Group’s summer season.
Both events will have tasty ales available from the Wirksworth Brewery. The bar opens 45 minutes before the performance. The StarDisc is at the top of Green Hill, postcode DE4 4EN. More details are available on 01629 824258.
