Blue is the colour for fans of band

Music fans are in for a treat when Blueflint strut their stuff for a concert in the Darwin Suite at Derby’s Assembly Rooms on Thursday, June 20.

Blueflint are Deborah Arnott on vocals, banjo and ukulele; Clare Neilson on vocals, clawhammer banjo; Hugh Kelly on double-bass; Danny Hart on fiddle and Ali Murray on drums.

This Edinburgh-based band intertwines banjos, fiddle, double-bass and drums to accompany the singers in beautifully-crafted songs.

Blueflint swoop easily from the dark underbelly of folk to buoyant Americana-tinged ballads.

The sound of Blueflint is defined by the sublime close harmonies of Deborah Arnott and Clare Neilson, whose voices, both ethereal and warm, interweave in ballads and songs of eerie melancholy and heartfelt charm.

After the success of their highly acclaimed debut album High Bright Morning, their atmospheric and evocative live performances, Blueflint’s much anticipated second album Maudy Tree raised their profile, gaining the band plaudits throughout the music press.

Blueflint supported The Proclaimers for six weeks on their 2012 UK album launch tour, taking in venues such as Edinburgh’s Playhouse and London’s Shepherds Bush Empire.

Their performances proved them to be a formidable live act and gained them a strong reputation and following through the UK.

Their debut single Take Your Shoes Off, gained radio play on BBC Radio 2 and many other local and national radio shows.

Blueflint successfully thwart attempts at musical pigeonholing; their fresh and original sound refuses to sit squarely in any one genre.

The concertin the Darwin Suite starts at 8pm.
