Check out a slice of history in Wirksworth

A little bit of history will be made at Wirksworth Town Hall on Saturday, April 26.

Thirty years after they last played a gig with the celebrated Lonnie Donegan at the Brighton Pavilion, local and nationally-known skiffle band Please Y’Self are set to appear with his son Peter at Wirksworth Town Hall.

Like his father before him, Peter Donegan is a talented performer and songwriter and his shows are a wholly entertaining mix of his dad’s songs, stories from his childhood and his own great music.

Please Y’Self need no introduction to local people, having been stomping out their own inimitable brand of skiffle at home and abroad for over 40 years since they started out as buskers.

It was while supporting the Peter Donegan Band at the Derby Assembly Rooms that the idea was mooted to do a joint gig.

Then, at a festival last summer, siblings John, Rob and Chris from Please Y’Self joined Peter on stage for the last part of his act.

”It was amazing,” said John, ”despite having no rehearsal it was just like we’d played together for years and it went like the proverbial train!

“Not only does Peter look like his dad, he has the same energy that made the kids go wild all those years ago”.

This promises to be a night to remember indeed for local musical fans.

Tickets for this Town Hall Events concert are £12.50 / £11 and they are available from or by contacting Traid Links, situated at the Market Place, Wirksworth.
