THE 20th birthday year of the Kinder Children’s Choirs of the High Peak is set to get even better, thanks to a Royal acknowledgement.

The birthday milestone was initially celebrated at a sell-out gala concert at Buxton Opera House in June.

That concert featured the full complement of 120 Kinder choristers and trainees and a grand finale saw them joined by an Alumni choir of former members coming on stage for the Hallelujah Chorus, You Raise Me Up and The Rhythm of Life.

Another potentially memorable evening is coming up on Saturday, October 1 at St John’s Church in Buxton, when Kinder Concert Choir, Kinder Youth Choir and Kinder Junior Singers will be joined by the celebrated Irish soprano Giselle Allen.

This is the fourth in an annual series of Bux Fizz concerts featuring stars from the world of opera. Giselle is currently singing with English National Opera, having just completed a season with Glyndebourne Festival Opera and Opera North. She opened on September 19 in Opera North’s production of Mieczyslaw Weinberg’s intense masterpiece, The Passenger.

Musical director Joyce Ellis said: “We are delighted and honoured that Giselle has agreed to fit our Bux Fizz concert into her hectic schedule of performances.

“The Kinder Choir is fresh from their concert tour of Normandy, France, where they were warmly acclaimed. aturday, October 1, promises to be a brilliant evening of quality singing here in Buxton.”

The choir has also learned that another 20th birthday gala concert, scheduled for Chatsworth on October 8, hosted by the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire, will be attended by HRH Princess Alexandra.

Joyce Ellis added: “It is a great honour and we are very much looking forward to this prestigious celebration of our anniversary. Because The Painted Hall at Chatsworth can only accommodate a small audience of just over 100, the event is ‘by invitation only’ and the tickets have sold very quickly.”

Tickets for the Bux Fizz concert on October 1 at St John’s Church Buxton are £10 and are available from Brooke-Taylors solicitors, The Quadrant, Buxton or by telephone from Jean Forrest on 01663 743041 or on-line from the KCC website:
