Martin Barre

Martin Barre’s band will be performing classic Jethro Tull tracks at The Flowerpot in Derby on Friday, September 12.

Martin Barre has been the guitarist of Jethro Tull for 43 years, his sound and playing having been a major factor in their success.

Album sales have exceeded 60 million units and they continue to be played worldwide, representing an important part of classic rock history.

Martin’s guitar playing has earned him a high level of respect and recognition. He was voted 25th best solo ever in the USA and 20th best solo ever in the UK for his playing on Aqualung. His playing on the album Crest Of A Knave earned him a Grammy award in 1988.

As well as numerous Jethro Tull albums, Martin has worked with many other artists including Paul McCartney, Phil Collins, Gary Moore, Joe Bonamassa and Chris Thompson, and has shared a stage with such legends as Jimi Hendrix, Fleetwood Mac, Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin.

As Jethro Tull are taking a long break from touring, Martin has put together a band to play the “classic” music from the Tull catalogue. His band, under the title of Martin Barre’s New Day is a total commitment to give the Tull fans and a broader audience the chance to hear tracks not performed for many years. The band includes other members of Tull and top musicians from a similar background.

Then, on Saturday, September 13, you can enjoy a visit to the King Street venue by AC/DC UK with their tribute to the music of AC/DC.

After five years of extensive touring, AC/DC UK’S highly energetic live show covers every era of AC/DC’s lengthy career from 1976’s High Voltage through to 2008’s Black Ice. You can expect to hear all the classic hits such as Thunderstruck, Back in Black, Highway to Hell, Rock & Roll Damnation etc... but the band also caters for the hardcore AC/DC fans by playing many lesser known numbers too.

Each band member’s passion for the sound of AC/DC has brought them together to form what they feel is the closest show you are ever likely to see in honour of these rock legends.

Get yourself down to the Flowerpot for a two-hour set of high voltage rock ‘n’ roll.

Doors open for both gigs at 8pm and admission is £16 for Martin Barre, and £9 for AC/DC UK.

Advance tickets are available from The Flowerpot and RAW Promotions, as well as online at
