The new season of music entertainment at The Queen’s Head in Belper is to open on Friday, September 13 with the eagerly-awaited return of Robb Johnson.

Always a songwriter’s songwriter, Robb’s status was perhaps best summed up by Tom Robinson with the comment ‘Great song. Wish I’d written that.’

Like Billy Bragg, Robb is as poignant with a love song as he is sharp with social commentary and never one to miss a chance for humour.

He is still passionate after all these years. Admission is £6 and support comes from Belper’s Chris Butler.

To complete an exciting weekend, Philip Henry and Hannah Martin play the Chesterfield Road-based venue on Saturday, September 14. Like their Devon neighbour, Seth Lakeman, the duo bring a fresh and original approach to traditional music drawing on Appalachian and Indian influences with slide guitar, fiddle and harmonica backing Hannah’s soaring and spine chilling vocals.

With an album described as a ‘modern classic’ by Mike Harding, Philip and Hannah have generated considerable interest in both the UK and USA. Advance tickets are £7 from the venue or contact mjones572@ hotmail.co.uk
