Famous five to sing together

Il Divo and Katherine Jenkins, the classical crossover stars, will unite for the very first time to perform together as part of their co-headline UK and European Tour.

They will start the UK leg of the tour at Capital FM Arena Nottingham on Thursday, April 4.

Both artists have captivated millions around the world while remaining at the forefront of a classical-crossover revolution in recent years.

With over 30 million album sales between them, both Il Divo and Katherine have experienced stratospheric rises since their recording debuts in 2004.

While they have crossed paths at various musical events and TV shows, they have never actually taken to the public stage together.

This tour will see both artists perform with a full orchestra, their own unique classical interpretations of popular songs, whilst also dueting together for the very first time. The tour will see this quartet - Carlos Marin, Sebastien Izambard, David Miller and Urs Buhler – and mezzo soprano Katherine Jenkins perform at leading venues across the UK and Europe.

Proving the lack of geographical boundaries to their romantic and timeless repertoire, both artists have toured extensively across the globe.

Il Divo last year completed the final South American leg of their ten-month and six-continent fourth world tour, while Katherine Jenkins has been on tour in South Africa, China, Japan and Taiwan in the past year, as well as her sellout UK tour early in 2012.

Sebastien Izambard from Il Divo remarked: “We’ve long been friends with Katherine, and as we looked to stage a tour around our Greatest Hits release, we thought what better way to approach it than to offer our fans the ultimate evening of classical crossover music by inviting Katherine to perform and also join us on some brand new duets.

“We hope we can make some wonderful music together!”

Katherine Jenkins commented: “Having known the boys for such a long a time it’s great to finally be working on such an exciting project together.”

n Derby Theatre is to be the venue for The Original Theatre Company’s presentation of Birdsong, from April 16-20.

Following a succesful production in 2010 in the West End, this is a exciting, brand new stage adaptation by Rachel Wagstaff of Birdsong, which is currently receiving rave reviews for its portrayal of Sebastian Faulks’s much-admired tale, set during the World War One.

Over the course of its 22-venue tour across the UK, a dynamic cast of 12 shape Faulks’s wartime epic into an intimate story of love and sacrifice, set against the backdrop of the Western Front.

In pre-war France, young Englishman Stephen Wraysford embarks on a passionate and dangerous affair with his host’s wife, Isabelle Azaire.

As civil unrest mounts and war breaks in on the idyll of his former life, Stephen finds he must now lead his men through the carnage of the Battle of the Somme and the sprawling tunnels that lie deep underground.

Faced with unprecedented horror, the war-hardened Stephen clings to the shrinking memory of Isabelle as his world explodes around him.

Rachel Wagstaff explained: “Birdsong is in an incredibly powerful novel, and through the story of Faulks’s fictional characters, we can understand what it might have been like for individuals caught up in this most extraordinary period of world history.”

She added: “Given the approaching centenary of the First World War, and the passing away of Harry Patch, the last surviving British Army Veteran to have fought in the Great War, it seems more important than ever that the courage and sacrifices of those who fought and fell for future generations are not only remembered, but understood.”
