The third and final weekend of this year’s event-packed Wirksworth Festival sees no let up in the amount of activities planned.
From Friday to Sunday, you can enjoy Wirksworth Festival’s Up and Coming Weekend, featuring music, theatre, dance, fashion and film, made and performed by a range of young up and coming artists, all taking place at Wirksworth Town Hall (unless otherwise stated).
On Friday at 9pm (doors open at 8.30pm) there’s a set from Birthday Girl Musica, with support by Gareth Berkley Smith, then on Saturday, at 10.30am and 1pm, you can see Nosey Nina Returns, story-telling theatre for young children, with Jenny Richards and Cora Whitney.
Also on Saturday, at 12.30pm, 3pm and 4.30pm, is Canary, innovative site-specific new theatre, featuring three short stories adapted by Eve Hedderwick Turner and Jessie Wyld.
On Saturday at 3.30pm, the Extreme Sport Short Film Competition Award Ceremony is to be held at the Northern Light Cinema, while later in the evening, at Wirksworth Town Hall from 7.30pm, there is a Dance Theatre Evening, including brand new dance theatre featuring: The Romeo and Juliet Project by INdependDANCE; Threadbare – a première of LTA’s Up and Coming ’13 Commission from the Bright in the Corner UK Young Artists.
Finally on Saturday, from 10pm, there’s The Female Thief, contemporary folk plus chilled DJ sounds from Jack Kindred Boothby deep into the night.
Sunday’s treats include The Babbling Vagabonds performing their story The Brothers Grimm, with stories to dance up your spine, steal your breath and whisper magic in your ears and, from 4pm, Wirksworth Festival Finale Community Celebration, at Stoney Wood, Lime Kiln.
