Home Service play Darley Dale date

The reunion of the legendary band Home Service continues apace with a performance at Darley Dale’s Whitworth Centre on Saturday, September 27.

The renaissance of this classic band is due to the recent discovery of some previously unheard live recordings made by their former sound engineer.

These recordings, made at the Cambridge Folk Festival in 1986, exhibit a power and commitment that was never fully captured in the studio, so a live album release immediately became inevitable. With an album to promote, live performances were the obvious next step.

So, with everyone truly inspired by the might of these recorded performances, Home Service is once again back in business.

The band includes Derbyshire’s very John Tams, described by MOJO magazine as “one of the ultimate British songwriters”, and Graeme Taylor, formerly of Gryphon, a band dubbed a “13th Century Slade” by Melody Maker.

The reformed band, in virtually its original lineup, has for two years enjoyed dozens of major gigs, and the reformation has proved to be a thoroughly resounding success, receiving ecstatic ovations from audiences, old and new alike.

Last year culminated in their award at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards for Best Live Act, truly the icing on the cake.

The gig gets under way at 8pm.

Tickets are £17, available during office hours on 01246 860022 or out of office hours on 01623 812739.
