Jazz ace Denys in energetic form

SAXOPHONIST Denys Baptiste is the latest performer to take part in a Derby Jazz concert.

You can see him in action in the Darwin Suite at Derby’s Assembly Rooms from 8.30pm on Friday, September 23. (Please note the later than usual start time as the concert ties in with the weekend’s Derby Feste celebrations.)

Denys Baptiste’s career has seen him win all sorts of awards for his playing, including a Mercury, a Mobo and a British Jazz Award.

He leads a quartet, demonstrating his phenomenal command of tone and timing.

His quartet includes award-winning pianist Andrew McCormack, Jazz Jamaica bassist Gary Crosby and drummer Rod Youngs.

They will be offering up an energetic collection of new compositions that draw from a broad palette, taking in Caribbean, American and African influences.
