If you have always had a desire to test your vocal chords in a stage production now is your chance to sign up for a choral workshop and join the cast for a gala performance of Last Night of the Proms, to be held at Haddon Hall, near Bakewell.
On Saturday, August 6, the Chesterfield Operatic Society, together with the Haddon Hall Concert Choir and the Haddon Hall Concert Orchestra, will be holding a one-day workshop for enthusiastic singers. After a day of rehearsals, participants will take part in the evening concert Last Night of the Proms which will be held in the medieval courtyard in the shadows of the historic manor house.
Rehearsals commence at 9.30am and take place at the Level Centre, Old Station Close in Rowsley and anyone interested in being part of this music extravaganza can download a booking form from www.haddonhall.co.uk or call the bookings hotline on 01629 810912. But hurry, the deadline for applications is Friday, July 22 and places cost £20 per head for adults with students concessions at £12. Lunch and pre performance meals can all be booked at a cost of £5.50 with tea, coffee and squash being provided throughout the day to keep everyone’s voices well lubricated.
The programme will include songs by Andrew Lloyd Webber and from the smash hit musical Les Miserables together with pieces by Elgar and Handel and a host of other well-known and popular prom pieces.
The evening concert will be supporting the Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice and tickets cost £15 each with one free ticket for every group booking of 10. Summer suppers and a licensed bar will be available throughout the concert.
