The Matlock Oxjam Festival is almost upon us, providing a selection of great gigs for music fans to enjoy.
Monk Bar will be the hosts of two events during the festival, the first of which is the opening event, a quiz night on Wednesday, October 30.
Questions will start from 8pm and the first and secondplaced teams will win prizes. To help you through the night, Sweet Crumbs will be there selling tasty treats and cupcakes with all money going towards Oxfam.
On the following night, Monk Bar will be hosting its very own Monk Unlupgged event, featuring George Baxby from Buxton, Steady Sound from Nottingham and local favourite Steve Wood. All will be playing a mixture of originals and covers. There is free entry with Steady Sound taking to the mic first from 9pm.
On Friday, November 1, there’s Rock Box @ Moca Bar, from 9.30pm, featuring popular local acts Alex Rennie, 25, a singer songwriter from Wirksworth, Benjy CJ, who says his favourite place to play is in Matlock. and headline act Olliver Taylor-Fry and Gareth Metcalf. They are members of Facsimile, a band with a huge following thanks to their impressive performances, but when playing as a duo they don’t let you down. They’ll be playing songs by many different bands and artists including Pearl Jam to Ed Sheeran. Entry is free thanks to Moca Bar for directly donating to Oxfam.
Then, on Saturday, November 2, Oxjam Live @ The Loft runs from 5pm till late. £2 tickets are available at Little Gem and Black Hippo.
It features nine different bands and musicians. The line-up from start to finish includes Molly-May and Jamie, Amy and Lily, Will MackMersh, Lizzie Parkin, Blue Wallpaper Inc., Seb Makemson Experience, The Tagged, Benjy And The Love Makers and headlining the night will be Matlock-based John Brewer Collective (pictured), with a mix of reggae, ska and funk.
